What is “CARTISTEM” used for treatment of Hiddink?
2015/11/04
STEM CELL THERAPEUTIC

“CARTISTEM®” is a regenerative treatment for knee cartilage, developed by MEDIPOST. It acquired its approval on January 2012 by KFDA and is the first homogeneous stem cell treatment in the world.

The treatment has been applied to 2500 patients in 270 hospitals in Korea and it is going through phase 1 and 2 clinical trials in US. It has also been exported to Hong Kong in 2013.

Hiddink, the former director of national soccer team had surgical treatment of CARTISTEM® on his right knee in the orthopaedics in Seoul on 7th January 2014.

Hiddink has been suggested to go through an artificial cartilage surgery in Europe but the treatment would lead him to limited activities and abstinence from sports such as golf or tennis.

Therefore he chose ‘CARTISTEM®’ which can help to regenerate his own cartilage.

Hiddink recently visited Korea and said “It was hard to walk and I had so much pain before treatment, but I can run and go up and down the stairs comfortably now. I am very happy thanks to the innovative treatment technology, showing his improved condition.
